Video qualities
Video on your site stalls on phones and eats traffic
One file served to everyone is why: a phone on a weak connection pulls the same heavy copy a desktop does. Upload the original once, and keepix builds the ladder — poster, silent preview, progressive MP4 and HLS rungs — and serves them from your own domain. The player picks the rung; your server transcodes nothing.
What is built
| Variant | What it is for |
|---|---|
poster | the still frame the page shows before playback |
preview | a short silent loop for a card in a list |
mp4 | one progressive file: it plays anywhere, including old browsers |
hls | the quality ladder: the player picks the rung by the viewer's connection |
Video goes into a queue rather than into the answer — transcoding takes minutes, and a request that waits for it would time out. The answer says the work is accepted; the addresses resolve as soon as each variant is ready.

What this replaces
- ffmpeg on the application server, and the day it eats every core during a sale;
- a transcoding queue, its retries and its dead letters;
- bandwidth accounting — delivery traffic is measured as the bytes that actually left, taken from the web server log, not as size × hits.
Transcoding is billed by the seconds the worker really spent, not by the length of the clip: a still slide and an action scene do not cost the same because they do not cost us the same.

Video is on the paid plans, from $5 a month. The free plan is for images — it says so on the card rather than failing later with an error nobody expected.
